On August 17th, 1969, the Woodstock festival was held to commemorate the hippie community and celebrating the free flowing way of life of the hippies. The festival was held on a 600-acre farm that was originally a money maker, but when around 500,000 people showed up they couldn’t contain the entrance gates and had to allow everyone in to the festival. The leaders of the festival were John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfield and Michael Lang, their festival lasted for around 3 days and the problem with the festival was that people were associating the civil rights activists with hippies, but in reality they didn’t have anything to do with each other originally.
