While in Prison Malcolm X's brother wrote to him asking him to join nation of islam, originally he wanted nothing to do with it but slowly he became more and more interested. Having taught himself how to read in prison he began writing to Elijah Muhammad the founder of the group. He then began praying more and more often and became a dedicated member.
