The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation in public places based off of race, religion, sex, or national origin. It was proposed under the administration of president John F. Kennedy and was passed by his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was significant because it was a legal success of the Civil Rights movement and it was followed by other significant legislation, such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
