28 ago 1955 ano - Lynching of Emmett Till

Descrição:

Emmett Till, who was from Chicago, had been visiting family in Money, Mississippi. Unaware of the extreme racism and strict social standards against black in the South, Till had said “bye baby” to a white woman in a store. The woman’s husband and brother, came to the house where Till was staying in the middle of the night and demanded that he come with them. They then took him to the bank of the Tallahatchie River and brutally beat and mutilated Till before shooting him and throwing his body into the river. When his body was recovered, his mother made the choice to have an open-casket funeral so that the public could see the extreme abuse faced by Till. While tragic and disturbing, Till’s death prompted many people to see the need for the change and helped the Civil Rights campaign.
