Descrição:

The northern states won the civil war so over 4 million slaves were freed in 1865.
Many of them moved west to Kansas to file claims, as there had been rumours that land was being given away for free. This migration became known as the Exoduster movement.

Impact:
-Many exodusters were left with difficult farming and struggled t survive.
-Many struggled to pay the fee to file a homestead as they initially thought it was free.
