betsy locates the amulet in a small desert town called harmony gorge. she gets in contact with judge calhoun and says she's a scientist who wants to send her team out for research, and harmony gorge is the perfect spot. calhoun seemed happy to help.

the next day, she set up a teleportation circle in the backyard. while on the phone with calhoun, she performed the teleportation spell with the help of calhoun's mage, ezra, and the five of you were teleported to the town. calhoun is a tall but stout human male with gray hair. ezra is a halfling donned in black with a a mask covered her mouth. he welcomes you with a cheery smile and stated he was happy to have you. he walks back into town and snaps for ezra to follow.

you enter the tavern. you met sammy, the dwarven barkeep. all the patrons of the bar were full of stiff smiles. you entered the back room, sat at a table with the words 'the desert storm' etched into it, and met some members of the golden stars.

the leader, buddy [half-orc; fighter], watched the twins helene [human; ranger] and tole [human; wizard] beat lucky [high elf; cleric] at pool. you sat down with the group and played cards. buddy gave you three rules:

1. respect calhoun.
2. respect the golden stars.
3. never step foot in the garage, for a conspirator to worst threat to the town since lafrocina resided there.

you call betsy for guidance. sal picks up, as betsy was focusing on pinpointing the location of the amulet. you repeated rule number three to him. he stiffened; "do what you have to." and abruptly hung up.

you went to the garage.

as you approached, a blue heeler dog blinked in front of you. arinin used awaken mind to communicate with the dog; her name was cadillac and, upon learning you meant no harm, excitedly brought you to maverick.

maverick invited you into the garage, kicking a box under a work shop bench to hide it. arinin steals a wrench because she has a bit of an issue. when cadi found out they were bugged, he brought you to a dollhouse. once you solved the puzzle, a drawer popped out with a picture book explaining how harmony gorge came to be.

it was written by lucy morningstar.

maverick ushers you out of his garage through the backdoor, for tole had found them. he would fight him off, but you needed to go to the library to find the full story. he hands you a wooden doll, similar to the ones in the dollhouse at the puzzle, and give it to lucy.

the town is dead quiet. you arrive at the library. you are greeted by a very old tortle stamping books. at the desk next to him, lucy sits on a chair and kicks her legs. dezinik attempts to communicate with her. she only stares blankly at him, smiling lazily. her desk is full of cat figures. there is a dusty polaroid camera.

poppop tells the group lucy is feebleminded and that she cannot communicate with them. they show him the doll and lucy's smile fades as her eyes widen.

poppop brings you to a cupboard similar to the one in the garage. when you solve that puzzle, you learn through newspaper clippings and handwritten notes about ty's trial, camden's rebellion, maverick's loss, and lucy's torture.

"if you're reading this," she writes, "welcome to the desert storm."

the golden stars, buddy, helene, and lucky, enter the library. helene teases lucy. you hide from them. buddy fires an arrow in between poppop's eyes and kills him.

lucy screeches in horror. you fight the golden stars until you hear a commotion outside.

calhoun watches as two golden stars arresting sammy, his son screaming at calhoun to spare him as his wife desperately trying to quiet their boy.

leander fires his magic missile crossbow at calhoun. he glances at them and doesn't even flinch. as they approach, ezra jumps up and takes the damage from them. calhoun turns to you, eyes wild, and summons his giant battle axe.

"that damned bastard child tried to take this town from me, 'n you saw how GREAT that worked out fer'em, so let's get ONE THING CLEAR, you will NEVER take this town from me--"

before he can lay a finger on you, the library explodes.

flames engulf the building. dez remembers lucy is still in there. he runs in, finds her mourning her poppop, and extends a hand. she asks why he saved her.

as he carries lucy out, his hat falls out and is turned to ash.

dezinik carries lucy out, his horns now visible and tielfing ancestry apparent.

the group ran to the garage for refuge as the town attempted to put out the library's fire because desert town=dry wood and dry wood=spreading fire.

maverick pulls out a spare blueprint as he and lucy come up with a quick plan to take down calhoun once and for all. they believed you were one of those hero groups who were there to save their town. lucy teases maverick on his drawing skills, or lack there of.

he snorts. "designing was camden's job."

maverick would hop on his motorcycle and distract the golden stars while you and lucy went to the courthouse.

maverick puts his hand in towards lucy.
"for cam."
lucy puts her hand in.
"for poppop."
dez steps up and joins.
"for my mom."
leander puts a hand in.
"for _____"
brisk extends his hand.
"for _____"
arinin rolls her eyes and puts her hand in.
"well i guess if we're all putting our hands in like idiots."

she does not say for anyone.

maverick distracts the golden stars enough for you to make it to the courthouse. lucy runs down and frees sammy. you are stopped by buddy, but dez uses his cone of cold stone to freeze him to death.

you reach the hallway to the courtroom. you are stopped by ezra. she does not make any sounds of pain as you attack her. brisk casts command to try and get her to sing. she fails the save, but physically cannot vocalize.

a wall of flame shoots down the hallway, and the wall shapes around your figures to avoid harming you. the flames reach ezra and engulfs her. her mask falls off as she catches fire, revealing that she has no lower jaw.

you turn and see that lucy casted the spell. she asked why ezra would cast feebleminded one her.

to her own sister.

they take the fight outside.

you enter the courtroom. calhoun, surrounded by three desert storm members, laughs at you.

arinin casts fear.

only lucky passes.

calhoun sees his wife, reaching out to him, wedding ring sparkling. he reaches back to her. suddenly, a yellow gas appears around her. she begins choking. she collapses to reveal their son crying as the gas begins to surround him. he choked and begs his dad for help. he is soon collapsed onto the ground, dead as well.

lucky kills the two golden stars members and flees.

leander attacks. dez casts hold person. brisk casts blindness in an act of mercy.

maverick stands in the doorway. he comes up to calhoun, handaxe ready, and slices his throat.

"that's for ty."

he buries the hatchet in his skull.

"that's for camden."

dezinik climbs the judge's chair in search of the amulet. betsy calls.

"THE GARAGE! THE AMULET'S IN THE GARAGE!"

he slowly turn to maverick. maverick flees the building. he runs into the street and latches onto cadillac, who teleports them both back into the garage.

you chase him out and see lucy placing a handkerchief over her sister's dead body. you approach her. she says to just listen to maverick; he can explain better than she can.

arinin holds a dagger to her back. lucy escorts them.

you enter the garage. the box that maverick tried to hide previously has been knocked over. gears, wires, and other robotic parts are splayed across the floor.

a bookshelf is swung open to reveal a hidden door. lucy walks with you down into the lead reinforced room.

maverick is aiming his longbow at you as cadi growls. next to him, on a workshop bench, is a partially completed humanoid robot with a blue amulet in the center of its chest.

maverick, through clenched teeth and tears, explains how he watched his younger brother die in front of him and how he can still save him.

"please, please don't take him away. don't take my baby brother away."

leander explains they need the amulet to stop the end of the world. maverick doesn't care.

dezinik leaves the room and calls betsy and sal to explain. sal asks to see the robot.

maverick is star struck for a moment upon seeing the author of the textbooks he's been slaving over for the past few years. sal sees the body and agrees to finish it in return for the amulet.

maverick, crying now from relief, agrees to pack his truck and head back to eon werlons immediately to save his brother.

cam communicates within the amulet through morse code---he causes the amulet to glow in a series of shorter and longer flashes.

the four of you, lucy, maverick, and cam pile into maverick's pickup truck and start driving.

on your way, you decided to stop at a motel called the spur 'n shooter, which was advertising their latest addition to their rooms: television.

once you unpacked and settled in, maverick flipped through the stations, fascinated.

he stopped on a news channel that was broadcasting breaking news:

FAERUN'S MOST WANTED CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE MURDER OF QUEEN AND KING OF NEMTROV, _____ AND _____ SILVERKIN.

on the television were the dead bodies of the royals, sitting disemboweled on their thrones with a single word drawn on the wall in their own blood:

CRUEL.
