The Truman Doctrine was first developed and presented on March 12, 1947. It was further developed on July 12, 1948, when President Harry S. Truman pledged to contain threats to Greece and Turkey. It states that the United States would provide political, military and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from external or internal authoritarian forces.
