The Soviet Union offically dissolved on December 26, 1991. This resulted in one singluar state known as the Russian Federation. After this, Gorbachev became the first President of the Soviet Union. He was only President for one year and was succeeded by Boris Yeltsin. Yeltsin and Bush effectively worked together to make complete peace between the two nations. In 1992, they made a joint statement pledging their friendship and cooperation.
