21 maio 1954 ano - Brown v. Board
of Education
Descrição:
David Kennedy calls the Brown case "epochal", certainly it is a landmark in the African American struggle for equal treatment and civil rights in the United States. Earl Warren, former governor of CA, was appointed chief Justice by Eisenhower. By uniting the Supreme Court on such a divisive issue, Warren and the Court's unanimous decision sent the message loud and clear that the Nation's highest Court was ready to move on civil rights. The case overturned the 1896 standard "separate but equal" (Plessy v. Ferguson) by declaring segregation in schools "inherently unequal" and "desegregation must proceed with all deliberate speed."
