21 jun 1964 ano - Killing of Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner
Descrição:
The murders of Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner outraged Americans nationwide, especially those fighting for Civil Rights. The three men were civil rights workers that worked with the Freedom Summer campaign, which worked to get African Americans in Mississippi to be able to vote. They also worked closely with the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) and Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). They had been traveling to Longdale, Mississippi to talk with members of a church there that had been burned. They were pulled over for speeding and jailed for a few hours, but when after they were released and drove away, they were abducted from their car and murdered. This extremely violent and hateful crime angered all Civil Rights activists and pushed many to the brink of using violence.
