Americans knew that the energy and ideals that fueled their own revolution were at work in France in the 1790's and initially most Americans cheered. The French Revolution had far different results in France than our own did in North America. In 1793, the leaders of the French Revolution lopped off the head of their King, Louis XVI. The conflict erupted into a larger war with England that became a world war, which America was nearly entangled in completely.
