This bombing happened at the 16th Street Baptist Church --- a predominantly black church, that was also a meeting place for civil rights leaders. Four girls were killed and many others were injured. This horrific tragedy helped draw attention to the hard fought, dangerous struggles for civil rights faced by the African American community.
