Pancho Villa, who attained notoriety as a general during the Mexican Revolution, leads hundreds of Mexicans in an attack on the U.S. town of Columbus, New Mexico. Seventeen Americans were killed and the town center was burned. The invasion marks the first attack on U.S. territory since 1812. The American public is outraged, and U.S. President Wilson sends ten thousand troops into Mexico in pursuit of Villa.
