18 mar 1766 ano - Repeal of Stamp Act and Passage of Declaratory Act

Descrição:

Due to the hate that the colonists gave the British because of the tax, the parliament voted to repeal the Stamp Act in March 1766. However, the same day, the Parliament had passed the Declaratory Acts, asserting that the British governments had free and total legislative power over the colonies. This is because the British had to deal with many protests and disputes about the "Taxation without representation" for the Stamp Act, so they finally got rid of it but they had to somehow maintain British supremacy, so they added the Declaratory Act. The colonists did coerce the British into removing the Stamp Act through protests, however they simply disregarded the Declaratory Act, overlooked its implications and did not concern much about following the act - they ignored the act
