In 1814, the industrialist Francis Cabot Lowell, in addition to the other members of The Boston Associates established a mill in Waltham, Massachusetts. This mill was a technological marvel due to the fact that every part of the cotton manufacturing process was conducted under one roof. This model was adopted by many other factories throughout the country.
