An "elite police unit" tasked with removing guns and drugs from the street were caught on video jeering, making derogatory comments, and throwing their drinks at pedestrians in unprovoked attacks. Over eighteen of these incidents occurred, all but one in West or South Louisville. The unit was disbanded in 2019, and two officers were sent to federal prison in 2022.
