27 maio 1968 ano - "Civil Unrest"

Descrição:

1968 protests for Louisville actually triggered 2 months after the assassination of Dr King (April), when a white police officer beat up a local activist named Manfred Reid, was suspended and then reinstated following protest from the FOP. On May 27th in the Parkland neighborhood, some youth reportedly threw a bottle at a police car and violence ignited. The national guard was called in the following day, which only exacerbated bad conditions. After several days of unrest, two black teenagers had been shot dead, 450 protesters were arrested and a quarter of a million dollars was done in property damage. Six local members of the black community were also accused baselessly of a conspiracy to stir up protests and attack oil fields nearby, arrested and tried but since no evidence could be produced (and the so-called conspirators did not know each other), they were released. These events severely impacted local trust in police.
