Unlike most of these scientists, Albert Einstein was also an outstanding mathematician. One of his greatest ideas was combining space and time into one four-dimensional system. By doing this, he learned that the speed of light is always the same and if an object even approaches this speed, strange things would occur. More importantly, he was able to use his knowledge of statistics and probability to prove the existence of atoms. His equation E=mc^2 (energy equals mass times the velocity of light squared) resulted in a total rethinking of physics and became the foundation of the development of atomic energy.
