the SAP announced that they would contest and win the next election, serving as a direct political challenge to the PAP. PAP brought together four other Malaysian opposition parties and formed the Malaysian Solidarity Convention (MSC). They campaigned for a "Malaysian Malaysia" where all would be treated equally regardless of race or reliigion. THis upset Alliance leaders and deepened their mistrust in the PAP as it threatened the special rights enjoyed by the Malays.
