In response to the Great Fear, the National Assembly, in a single night, abolished the privileges of the nobility and clergy. These decrees ended feudalism, forced the First and Second Estates to pay taxes, and eliminated the exclusive hunting rights and other special treatment they had enjoyed for centuries.
