The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) was founded in 1922 by a group of educators at the Teachers College and Columbia University. The CEC advocates for children with special needs, urging government to set appropriate policies for special education. The CEC upholds the standard for professionals working with children with special needs, provides professional development workshops, and aids professionals in finding resources that they need to be effective educators, therapists, and more.
