As Kansas became a state, the U.S. government took most of the Kansas Shawnee’s land, reducing their holdings to just 200,000 acres.
Impact on Shawnee Removal
Many Shawnee left Kansas for Indian Territory (Oklahoma).
Those who moved to Cherokee land became the Cherokee Shawnee (Loyal Shawnee).
