The Kansas- Nebraska Act was an act that allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within the borders of their states. The Act served to repeal the Missouri Compromise which did't allow slavery north of the 36/30 parallel. The Kansas-Nebraska Act helped lead to the Civil War because the conflicts that arose between pro-slavery and anti-slavery settlers in the aftermath of the act’s passage led to the period of violence known as Bleeding Kansas which helped lead to the Civil War.
