Britain and France divided up the Middle East into two spheres of influence and control (Britain to control Jordan, Iraq, and an area near Haifa; France to rule over Southeastern Turkey, Northern Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Arab states are created but Arabs must contend with British and French imperialism.
