Henry Morgentaler was a doctor who was defying the law in Canada in the late 1960s. The way he was doing it was carrying out illegal abortions for women in his clinic. He came to the truth about it in 1973 and said he carried out over 5000 illegal abortions during that time. In 1973 he was arrested and charged for these actions as it was seen as murder. A jury did not see him as guilty of the criminal code though a year later the Quebec court of appeal would find him guilty and order jail time. After a third trial all charges would then be dropped. Morgantaler was known for his thoughts on women's rights and was a huge leader for them. Like when he launched a lawsuit against the New Brunswick government regarding its refusal to pay for abortions performed in private clinics (including his own). In 1969 Pierre Trudeau would make abortion legal as long as it was for the health of the mother and in a licensed hospital. The perspective to see on this occasion is definitely the mothers who were affected by this. For years women would just have to get pregnant and if there was danger to their life they had nothing to do about that their only option was someone like henry morgentaler and there weren't many people like them. It was a hard time for women because of this as well as they were looked down upon in society as well.
