Reign of Terror (sep 5, 1793 – jul 28, 1794)
Description:
The reign of terror was a period in which the committee of public safety, lead by Robespierre, used violence to crush anti-revolutionary sentiments. Thousands were executed on trumped up charges of anti-revolutionary activities and thoughts. This period marked the point in the revolution in which many began to oppose its methods and excesses. The period ended with the execution of Robespierre.
