One Child Policy (jan 1, 1979 – jan 1, 2015)

Description:

The one-child policy was a program that was implemented nationwide by the Chinese government in 1980 in order to limit most Chinese families to one child each. The policy was enacted to address the growth rate of China’s population, which the government viewed as being too high. Due to the drastic measures of this policy, the fertility and birth rates were decreasing and many births were being prevented. Even the children born undocumented faced many troubles growing up, and even after the dropped policy, birth rates still remain low. Many families rejected the policy at first, but China offered incentives financially to aid in their decisions.
