First Intermediate Period (jan 1, 2181 BC – jan 1, 2055 BC)
Description:
This period is seen as a "dark period" in ancient Egypt's history. Conflict occurs, as well as artwork and temples being destroyed or vandalized. Due to this, artifacts from this period are very difficult to find. Memphis based rulers reign until about 2160 BC, and then the central authority completely dissolves.
