Description:
Abraham Lincoln was elected on November 6, 1860, as the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln led the United States through the American Civil War and fought for the Union side, abolishing slavery. Once Lincoln won the election, many southern states seceded from the Union. There were seven states that seceded from the Union when Lincoln was elected, which initiated the creation of the Confederate states.
