Texas Independence (jul 1, 1821 – mar 2, 1836)

Description:

July 1821, Stephen J. Austin went to Mexico/Texas to try and allow about 500 families to move there. 1830's around 1500 families were allowed to immigrate. Many families did not want to change to the Mexican culture and religion; in turn, the Mexicans resented Americans and created a border to block out any other immigrants. They essentially wanted nothing to do with the US. After a few years of fighting with Mexico, Texas declared it's independence on March 2, 1826, and created a constitution like the US and made sure to protect slavery.
