ALMORAVIDS TOOK OVER THE EMPIRE OF GHANA (jan 1, 1073 – jan 1, 1083)

Description:

In 1076, Almoravids expanded past to the Sub Sahara to take over the empire of Ghana more than likely however this was simply a major raid, it was possible that due to this Ghana was destabilised enough to allow the rise of the other empires of Mali. To the north the Almoravids reached the Strait of Gibraltar. By 1079, Tangier was occupied. By 1083 despite holding out for a while the port city of Sayyuta was taken as well.
