Salons (jan 1, 1600 – jan 1, 1700)
Description:
These salons were private social gatherings where people, often hosted by wealthy women, discussed art, literature, philosophy, music, and politics. While the salon culture existed in other parts of Europe, it was particularly prominent in France, especially Paris. The salon's influence waned as the French Revolution and subsequent political upheaval occurred.
