Jacques Necker (sep 30, 1732 – apr 21, 1804)
Description:
A Swiss-born banker and politician who served as finance minister to King Louis XVI of France on three separate occasions. His most significant contribution was his attempt to manage France's financial crisis, particularly during the American Revolutionary War, by using loans instead of raising taxes. This policy, along with his efforts to make royal finances public, initially made him popular but also contributed to his eventual dismissal and the outbreak of the French Revolution.
