Moses Mendelsohn (sep 6, 1729 – jan 4, 1786)
Description:
A prominent German Jewish philosopher and a key figure in the Haskala, or Jewish Enlightenment. He's known for his philosophical writings, his advocacy for Jewish civil rights, and his work translating the Bible into German. Mendelssohn is also celebrated as the inspiration for the character Nathan in Gotthold Lessing's play Nathan der Weise, which champions religious tolerance.
