Known as "The Liberator," was the Emperor of Russia from 1855 to 1881. He is best known for freeing the serfs in 1861, a major reform that abolished the institution of serfdom and granted freedom to millions of Russian peasants. Beyond the serfs' emancipation, Alexander II also implemented other significant reforms, including establishing local self-government through zemstvos and introducing trial by jury.
