Description:
The King of France from 1643 to 1715, reigning for 72 years, the longest of any European monarch. He is widely regarded as the symbol of absolute monarchy and the Neoclassical era. His reign saw French colonial expansion, the conclusion of the Thirty Years War, and the transformation of the Palace of Versailles into a center of royal power and art. He also oversaw a golden age of French literature and art.
