The First Sino Japanese War (jul 23, 1894 – apr 17, 1895)
Description:
The First Sino-Japanese War was the first of 2 wars between Japan and China, over who owns Korea. On July 23, 1894, Japanese forces entered Chinese-owned Korea and captured Gyeongbokung Palace and installed their own government. Later on, on September 17, 1894, Japan received a decisive naval victory against the Chinese in the Battle of Yalu River. Later on, Lüshun would also fall to the Japanese on November 21, 1894. China would eventually lose the war, and surrender Taiwan to Japan, and Korea to be an independent nation on the Treaty of Shimonoseki, ending the war.
