Description:

A currently ongoing war between southern and northern parts of Mali. On January 16 of 2012, an insurgency group of Tuareg soldiers began a campaign against the Mali government in attempts to gain full autonomy and independency as a northern Malian nation. The current movement by the Tuareg soldiers is known as Azawad, which they wish to make their own nation by fighting this war. In 2013, French soldiers made interventions in attempts to end conflicts, yet were not fully successful, and the war raged forward. As recently as 2020, President Keita had been reelected as quickly as he was overthrown, with the country still in the middle of a war, economic disparity, political tensions, and violent conflicts.
