Persecutions of the Christians (jan 1, 65 – jan 1, 280)
Description:
The Romans were accepting of ancient religions and Romans were suspicious of cults. Because the Christians were a sect of Judaism the Romans left them alone. Later it became apparent that they were separate religions and in turn persecuted this “cult.”
How Christianity and Judaism are Different:
Who the Messiah was
- For Christians, Jesus has come and he will come again at the end of time (apocalyptic religion)
- Jews believe that Jesus can’t be the messiah
-Not from the house of David
-No liberation of Israel
-Judgment day was supposed to be really soon (Christians originally thought it would be seen after Jesus)
