Mass immigration helped lead us into the gilded age, it gave us more Americans to work in places that many Americans here previously would refuse to work at such as factories. Although immigration was a controversial issue because of the fact that many new Americans couldn’t yet speak english well or at all. Another factor that helped lead us into the gilded age is that many farmers were moving to the city to make a better living for themselves and their families. Although working conditions were harder and not yet fair to the workers many people would move to the cities to make better money. The political climate became much more serious and competitive during the gilded age, many politicians would try to appeal to people that were in poverty by offering better social services and things of that nature for their vote, this was a viable strategy because unlike years before there was a large population of people living in poverty.
