Wounded Knee (feb 27, 1973 – may 8, 1973)
Members of the Ogalala Lakota and AIM occupied Wounded Knee, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for 71 days. The goal of this occupation was to impeach tribal president Richard Nelson and re-open treaty negotiations with the U.S. Government. People died due to shootings on both sides, bringing in the media.
