Biennio Rosso (jan 1, 1919 – dec 31, 1920)
Description:
A wave of militant strikes as well as factory and land occupations took place involving more than 1 million workers as unemployment reached 2 million in 1919. Prime Minister Giovanni Giolitti did little to stop it, believing it could lead to a revolution to try to crack down. This alienated industrialists and landowners.
