Birkenau Concentration Camp (jul 7, 1944 – mar 13, 1945)
Description:
When Yanek arrives at the camp, the first thing he sees is the smoke coming from the chimneys of a building. They sat in the train car, though, for two whole days, waiting to be let out. After they were let out, they were herded into a circular room, with shower heads at the top. This was when they all knew they were going to be gassed, and they would die. As Yanek gives up and pleads to die, something starts coming out of the pipes. But it isn't gas coming out, it water. The nazis were nice enough, and gave them all a shower. The work there was awful, and one day, some prisoners tried to escape. They made it pretty far, but still got caught and brought back. They were then shot in front of the other prisoners by the leader himself, and then stood in front of them, shooting down tons of other innocent jews.
