Battle of Stalingrad (aug 23, 1941 – feb 2, 1943)
Nazi Germany fought the Soviet Union to take Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in Southern Russia. It is seen as the bloodiest and largest battle in the history of warfare. 2 million were killed. The Luftwaffe Air Force razed the city to nearly rubble. In the end Russia won by using a two pronged attack against Germany and forcing their supplies to run to nothing.
