Surrender of General Cornwallis at Yorktown (jan 11, 1781 – jan 11, 1781)
Description:
American troops from land and at sea trapped General Cornwallis soldiers in a peninsula eventually leading the british soldiers to surrender since they were overwhelmed and trapped. The american army was lead by George Washington and a few other commanders. During the siege George Washington had 2500 American soldiers and 4000 French soldiers helping him. With this he effectively beat General Cornwallis and his 7500 men. The surrender of General Cornwallis is important because it assured that the 13 colonies would win independence from Britain
