Formation of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) (dec 24, 1865 – dec 24, 1865)
Description:
An organization that was started by ex-confederate soldiers as a social club. This club became an organization whose main focus was to resist the North's efforts of establishing and maintaining rights and freedom for the African American population in the South. This was achieved through the use of lynchings, violence, threats, blackmail, and intimidation. By the end of Reconstruction, the KKK was successful in resisting the North's radical reconstruction policies and racism in the South continued.
