This completion of the First Transcontinental Telegraph marked a huge change in communication in the U.S. It helped send messages in seconds, which was revolutionary at the time. (Fun Fact: During the American Civil War from 1861-1865. This telegraph system was used by President Abraham Lincoln to have hourly updates on the battlefield, send direct orders to his generals, and communicate with his generals quickly.)
