Banting, Best and Macleod (Mepham) (jul 30, 1921 – jan 1, 1923)

Description:

Frederick Banting and Charles Best discover insulin in pancreatic extracts of dogs. On July 30, 1921, they injected the insulin in a diabetic dog and found it lowered the dog's blood glucose levels to normal. John Macleod purifies the insulin. In 1922 they successfully treat a 14-year-old boy with severe type 1 diabetes. In 1923 all three of them win a Nobel prize in physiology and medicine. This was a big step in medicine not just for Canada but for the whole world.
