While the Bible tells the story of Israel from Abraham and Sarah through to the arrival in Canaan, there is no way to verify the details of
Israel’s history until the time of the monarchy (from 1020 BCE). Prior to the Israelite monarchy, Egypt controlled Canaan. In approximately
1200 BCE, the Egyptians fought Aegean invaders, known as the Philistines, who later settled in southwest Canaan.
