Cheka (oct 1, 1917 – sep 1, 1922)

Description:

The Cheka was the Bolshevik secret police that was feared by many. Although it was not very secret. The Cheka was formed as a small agency to deal and investigate the threats of the new regime. The secret police was made to save the Soviet regime, by attacking others trying to change it. However, in 1918, after the revolution, the new regime began to grow. However, the Cheka grew along with it. The Cheka did not follow laws, and instead arrested anybody they wished, and acted in any way that they felt. They also answered to no one besides themselves. The Cheka became a model for the 20th century secret polive ageniscies in totalitarian states.
